Falcon 2027 turns the movement in an audio file into a modulation source

UVI released Falcon 2027 on 8 October, a free update for registered owners that adds four oscillators, ten effects and one new modulator. The modulator is the most interesting of the additions.
Data Envelope reads a recording, not a signal
Drop an audio file onto the Data Envelope and Falcon opens an extraction dialog with four methods: RMS, Peak, Brightness and Pitch. It traces that contour from the file and plays it back as a modulation source, which can then drive any parameter.
Playback has a Speed control from 0.1 to 10, so the gesture can run slower or faster than the original performance, plus smoothing and a loop region that turns a one-shot gesture into a sustained movement.
That makes it different from an envelope follower, which reacts to a live input as it arrives. The Data Envelope works from a file you dropped in, so it is an extracted shape, fixed until you replace it. The point is to borrow the timing and contour of a real performance, such as the swell of a bowed note or the pitch drift of a vocal, and apply it to something that never had it.
The new oscillators
FM Explorer is a three-operator engine whose routing is itself a parameter. One Morph control runs from operators in series in one order, through all three in parallel at the centre, to series in the reverse order, so the algorithm can be modulated rather than chosen. Shift is a per-operator detune of up to 1,200 cents.
West Folder puts a West Coast voice in one oscillator: wavefolding with Symmetry, Timbre, Order and Round controls, a built-in FM and AM modulator, and a lowpass gate. Spectral Stretch is a phase-vocoder sampling oscillator that separates playback speed from pitch, with transient detection and stereo phase locking. The fourth, MultiSample, plays mapped zones from an existing mapping file.
The ten effects are a lowpass gate, a wavefolder, FET and feedforward compressors, a Steiner-style multimode filter, a passive EQ, BBD delay and BBD chorus, a spectrogram and a loudness meter. UVI’s What’s New list and launch video cite 140 new presets.
