Rupert Neve Designs' pulled plug-ins are back at v1.0.7, with the warning still up

On 15 September Rupert Neve Designs announced its first plug-ins released under its own name, developed with McDSP: the Portico II Master Buss Processor at $199, and the 551 Inductor EQ and 542 Tape Emulator at $129 each. Formats are AAX, AU and VST3, native on Intel and Apple Silicon, with iLok authorisation and two activations.

Within three days, two of the three were gone from the store.

What RND said

A notice on RND’s plug-in site says the company found an audio error in the release builds of the Master Buss Processor and the 542, version 1.0.1 on Mac and 1.0.0.2 on Windows, and that the error was not present in the beta builds. Both products and their download links were removed. As of Friday 18 September, the notice says, RND had isolated the problem and was testing builds before re-release, and would contact buyers when new downloads were ready.

The 551 was not named in the notice.

Where things stand

As of today, all three plug-ins are on sale on RND’s own store, each with a price, a Buy Now button and a 14-day trial. The downloads page now serves the Master Buss Processor and the 542 as version 1.0.7 on Mac and 1.0.0.7 on Windows. The 551 is still on its original 1.0.1 and 1.0.0.2 builds, which fits the notice naming only the other two.

The downloads page also refers to “the updated Portico II MBP and/or 542 Plug-Ins” and offers to restart the 14-day demo for anyone who began a trial on release day.

What we could not find is a public account of the fix. RND has posted no news item about the error or the re-release, and the 18 September notice is still on the plug-in site’s home page, even though the products it describes as removed are on sale below it.

If you bought on day one

RND’s notice says it would contact buyers once new downloads were ready. If you installed the Master Buss Processor or the 542 in the first three days and have not updated, check your installed version against the downloads page. Anything reading 1.0.1 on Mac or 1.0.0.2 on Windows is one of the builds RND withdrew.
