Cherry Audio's Memorymode 2 doubles voices, adds MPE support

Six-voice polyphony with three oscillators per voice was the Memorymoog’s whole pitch back in 1982, and also its whole problem. Moog built it fast and never fully solved the tuning stability across all those voices, so the hardware that people loved for sounding like six Minimoogs stacked together also had a reputation for drifting out of tune mid-gig. Software emulation exists partly to keep the sound and lose the maintenance, and that’s the trade Cherry Audio made with the original Memorymode in 2021.

Memorymode 2 rebuilds the modeling rather than just adding features on top. Cherry Audio says the oscillator, filter and envelope modeling has been reworked using new analysis methods, and the ladder filter now offers a 12dB/octave option alongside the original 24dB, plus a “modern” setting aimed at lower lows and cleaner highs with emphasis compensation to hold level and low end steady as you switch.

The bigger structural change is a dual-layer architecture: two complete 16-voice layers per preset, each supporting up to 48 voices with unison stacking, which is well past what six-voice hardware could ever do. There’s also a single-key chord mode, analog drift control (useful if you actually want some instability back), velocity sensitivity, polyphonic aftertouch and MPE support. Modulation runs four lanes deep across 52 destinations, with 16 polyphonic step sequencers and arpeggiators per layer and three effect chains carrying 22 effects including a new Wide Phaser and Rotary Speaker.

$69, with a $39 upgrade for existing Memorymode owners. A $9.99 preset pack is also available, with August 2026 proceeds going to the Bob Moog Foundation.
