Behringer D Mini brings paraphonic Minimoog voicing

Behringer’s D Mini is now available in the EU, priced at 99€, after Thomann’s first batch sold out and Musicstore.de picked up regular stock. It’s a compact synth based on the Minimoog Model D, but it isn’t a straight shrink of Behringer’s existing D module.

The D Mini keeps the three multi-wave oscillators (saw, triangle, sharktooth, square, pulse) but ties them to a single tuning knob rather than tuning each independently, and it swaps the D’s dual envelopes for one ADS envelope. What it adds is more interesting for the price: 3-voice paraphonic operation, plus unison and ring-mod voice modes, a step sequencer with motion recording, and a built-in scaler for staying in key. There’s also a lowpass filter with resonance, an LFO with four waveforms, and white and pink noise with its own level control.

The MIDI implementation is the real upgrade over the rack-format D. Every knob transmits MIDI, so you can map the synth to an editor or save patches externally, something the panel alone doesn’t allow. Playing surface is 27 touch keys, and it runs off USB-C, so a power bank or phone charger works fine for taking it out of the studio.

At 99€ this sits as an impulse buy rather than a main instrument, and the single tuning knob and one-envelope architecture are the trade-offs against the full-size D. Worth it if the paraphonic voicing and sequencer are what you’re after. Stock has already proven tight once.
