ASM gives the Leviasynth sequencer a more musical way to evolve patterns
ASM has expanded the Leviasynth’s sequencer with a new tool for creating variations without completely losing the original groove. Instead of throwing random notes at a pattern and hoping for the best, Sequencer Entropy Deviation lets you decide how far each step is allowed to move away from its programmed value.
The feature arrives as part of firmware 1.2, a free update for Leviasynth owners. Deviation can be adjusted individually for each step, while an offset control makes it possible to change several steps together. When the sequencer produces something worth keeping, the variation can be printed into the current pattern and edited like any other sequence.
That makes entropy feel less like a novelty and more like a practical writing tool. It is particularly useful when a loop is working but has started to feel too familiar. Small deviation settings can introduce fresh accents, timing changes and melodic movement while keeping the basic identity of the pattern intact. Push the values further and the results become considerably less predictable.
The update also improves the response of the 16 Polytouch pads on the desktop model and addresses a broad range of issues involving sequence recording and recall, random playback, MIDI, MPE, pitch bend, chord mode and the arpeggiator. ASM has also restored microtonal scale importing and refined patch loading, Multi mode behaviour and several other workflow details.

More than an FM synth
Introduced in January 2026, the Leviasynth is a 16-voice hybrid algorithmic synthesizer with eight oscillators per voice. Although phase modulation and linear frequency modulation are among its available synthesis methods, the engine goes considerably further than a conventional FM architecture. Its seven synthesis types also include pulse-width modulation, HTE Sync and three forms of phase distortion.
The oscillators can be arranged through more than 140 supplied algorithms, while custom routings can be created and stored inside individual patches. Algorithm Morphing allows the instrument to move smoothly through a sequence of eight different algorithms, opening the door to sounds that change structure as they play.
Its signal path combines 18 digital filter models with an analogue pre-drive stage and a resonant four-pole analogue low-pass filter. Two independent parts can be stacked or split, and the modulation system includes 13 envelopes, five LFOs and a 32-slot matrix. The onboard sequencer provides two polyphonic note tracks and a separate Macro-automation track, with patterns of up to 128 steps.
The Leviasynth is available as a 61-note keyboard with polyphonic aftertouch and a four-octave ribbon controller, or as a rackable desktop model with 16 Polytouch pads. At the time of writing, Thomann is listing the keyboard around 9% below its previous 30-day price and the desktop model around 8% lower.
